Stepping Forward: Urologists’ Efforts During the COVID-19 Outbreak in Singapore

Following the outbreak of COVID_19, urologists in Singapore stepup and help manage the COVID-19 outbreak.


Surgical procedures like radical prostatectomies for the treatment of intermediate and high risk prostate cancer is being curtailed during the COVID-19 crises.

Learning from their experience, we have also changed over practice. Clinic appointments at East Surrey & Spire Hospitals are now screened. Patients with non-urgent conditions are consulted via telephone/video conference and rescheduled for a minimum of 6 months, with prescriptions written for pickup or delivery.

During this difficult period, we will be reducing elective surgery to minimise the risk. Low risk prostate cancer patients are being offered surveillance, while capacity is being created to treat high risk disease. Specialist urology services like Prostate Cancer Screening has been impacted, but all efforts are being taken to minimise the disruption.


Urologists will be helping over medical colleagues in looking after COVID-19 patients.
